What to Wear Wednesday: Post-Baby Clothing

Hey y’all! Brittany and I are excited to be back with another installment of “What to Wear Wednesday!”

This month, we’re going to talk about the always fun subject of post-maternity wear. As in – you just had a baby and now nothing fits – so what do you wear? {Special thanks to Brittany from Perpetually Daydreaming for her suggestion!}

I wore maternity clothes from the time I was 6 weeks along – I know everyone’s body is different, but I was so much more comfortable! Eventually, even the “cute” maternity clothes started getting tighter, and not fitting the way it should and before I knew it, I only had about three things to wear. I would dream of the day I could fit back into cute dresses, skinny jeans and shirts –minus the boobs (actually, no – I never had ginormous boobs! ha!).

After Gracie was born, I {mistakenly} thought I’d be back into pre-baby clothes in no time. But, sadly, that wasn’t the case. Thankfully, those first few weeks at home I could rock the “homeless” look :) I vividly remember thinking it was quite an accomplishment if I changed out of my maternity tank I slept in and into my cute, comfy, cotton pajamas for the day.

Eventually, I had to quit looking homeless and get out of the house – both for fresh air and my sanity – so I couldn’t rock pajamas down to the grocery store. I think I said, “What can I wear?” about 35 times on my first outing (while emptying my entire closet onto the floor!) But I found what worked, and now (almost ten months later!) I am very close to being back into my pre-pregnancy clothes…thanks to — genes? breastfeeding? not eating? (kidding!)

Here are some of my post baby essentials!

Blardigan: Ok this isn’t really called a blardigan, but if you read Pinterest Told Me To, this is what she has called it and it has a very large cult following! It’s half blanket, half cardigan – can be dressed up or down – and is super comfy! Win, win, win in my book!

Long Tank: Post baby you want something flowy and long enough to conceal the inevitable belly you will still have after giving birth (ten months later, I’m still rocking the long tanks on a daily basis!).

Leggings: These are my favorite clothing item post-baby, and I actually own two identical pairs. That’s how often I wear these! Pair them with items one and two, and you have a cute, put-together outfit!

Maxi-dress and shirt dress: You will live in easy, comfy dresses. Wear them running errands, or to dinner with your hubby (make sure to do this!!) – dresses are easy and effortless, but fashionable too :)

What to Wear Wednesday: Black Tie Wedding

Welcome to “What to Wear Wednesday”!

IMG_0658.JPG

Brittany and I are so excited to be sharing this series with y’all!

Once a month we will be posting style ideas for a specific event. We plan to do a mix of both special events and every day occasions, from how to mix prints to what to wear to a wedding.

Is there a particular look you want ideas styling? Leave us a comment or shoot us an email and we’d be happy to incorporate it!

This month we are talking about Black Tie weddings, because I am attending one in just a couple of weeks!

Keith and I received an invitation to a “black-tie optional” wedding in Boston at the end of February. This immediately presents a couple of challenges. First, Boston & February = COLD. Second, I don’t own anything black tie. See my conundrum?

My requirements are something affordable, but not boring. And it’s got to be warm!

I have this thing about wearing the same formal dress to multiple events. As in, I don’t like to do it. Is that something just I do??

I decided the best way around this issue, and since I will probably not need a black tie dress again, is to rent one. Have you heard of Rent the Runway?

You essentially rent a designer gown from them for either 4 or 8 days. They will also send you a second size for free, in case one size doesn’t fit. And, for an additional $25, you can choose a second style!

Here are my top three favorite dresses from Rent the Runway.

And because it’s freezing here, I will top my gown with this:

Which look do you prefer? Have you ever rented a gown? Do you re-wear dresses? What do you think about “What to Wear Wednesday?” SO many questions!! :)

*Note: this is not a sponsored post – but if RTR wants to send me one of these dresses, I will happily accept! :)*
