*First of all, I know that I missed the last two months of WTWW, but thank goodness for Brittany, who carried the torch! Find her posts here and here.*
This month’s topic is on mixing prints. On a day to day basis, I have a pretty classic style and tend to play it safe, but every now and again, I like to think (ok dress!) outside the box.
I thought this would be a good topic since fall is just about here now, and fall is the perfect time to layer and mix patterns and prints. A quick search of Pinterest will get you some great ideas, I’ve rounded up a few of my favorites here!
Some things to keep in mind: keeping prints in the same color family will make your outfit more soft and less attention grabbing. Mix the sizes of prints – small stripes with big florals or vice versa. Try keeping the rest of your outfit neutral, including jewelry, hair and makeup! Your prints will speak for themselves
Stripes + Plaid
Plaid+Leopard
This one is easily my favorite, since I tend to wear alot of plaid and leopard separately too!
Stripes + Leopard:
Stripes + Floral:
Polka Dots + Stripes:
I love the variety in these looks – some are more subtle and others are more attention grabbing, so if you are feeling unsure of mixing prints, try a “softer” look and see how you like it!
Plaid, leopard and stripes are my favorite go-to prints and I wear them all season long! I find it easier to use my accessories to add drama to an outfit – shoes, belts, and scarves are an easy way to add some flair to an otherwise boring outfit.
Here are a few of my mixed print outfits:
What are your favorite prints? How do you style them?
As a reminder, the first Wednesday of the month, Brittany and I will be posting style ideas for a specific event. We plan to do a mix of both special events and everyday occasions, from how to mix prints or what to wear to a wedding {like today!}. Is there a particular look you want ideas on styling? Leave us a comment or shoot either of us an email; we are more than happy to incorporate it!
