Reflection On Our Past Year

It’s hard to believe but earlier this week marked one year since we sold our house and moved into our condo. In just about a month, I will celebrate my one year Plexiversary. You might not think that the two have anything to do with each other, but they most definitely do.

Truth be told, I was sad to leave that house. I was oddly attached to it, even considering how many issues we had with it. I had a hard time letting go because it was Gracie’s first house. Growing up, we moved so many times that I lost count. I didn’t want that for her. I wanted one house, where she would come home to from the hospital and leave when she graduated. Funny how our idea of how our life should go, is very rarely how it does go.

On our last walk through our old neighborhood!

A year ago, I couldn’t see what a blessing it was. I *knew* that there was a reason we were moving. Selling our house at way over our asking price allowed us taking big step back and a huge deep breath. It allowed us to reevaluate what is truly important in life. A house is nice, but how nice is it if we are working so hard to pay for it that we don’t enjoy it? Paying someone else to raise our baby? It seems a little backwards to me now.

Looking skeptical in the moving truck!

We sold our house on September 26, and just a few weeks later Plexus came into our life. And when Plexus came into my life, it opened my eyes to the possibility of having time and financial freedom. I was able to quit my full-time job a few months later, to have more time with Gracie and build my business. I know this is something that I would not have been able to do if we still had that big mortgage.

Today, almost exactly a year later, is Gracie’s last day of daycare. When I quit my job in February, we opted to keep her in daycare for the social aspect, but also so I could focus on my business. Over the past few weeks, it had really been on my heart that it was time for her to be home with me full-time.

A year ago, standing on this front stoop, saying goodbye to what was and feeling so uncertain about the future, I had NO idea what was next. If you had told that girl that a year from that day, I would be a full time stay-at-home-mommy with a thriving business, I would not have believed you. But, here I am.

God works in mysterious ways. And if there is anything I’ve learned, it’s that things always, always work out the way that they are supposed to.

Cheers to an amazing year, and for the possibilities of this next one!!!

Why Target and I Are On A Break

Oh Target. I have a love/hate relationship with you. Something about this store sucks me in and I could lose an hour (or two!) in there.

In the past, I’ve made weekly trips to Target “just because” and come out $100 poorer and not know what the heck just happened!! I love their home decor, the One Spot, and the kids clothes! (Especially, have you seen the new Cat & Jack line?!) My Target also now sells food and beer/liquor! It’s like a one stop shop, the perfect combo for a busy mama who doesn’t want to drag her kid in and out of four different stores. But it’s also a death trap if you’re not careful!

A month ago, I decided to implement “no spend September”. Now I have not been the greatest at this so far this month, but the first rule I made for myself was “you are not allowed to set foot into Target”. There is nothing so important that I can’t buy from Amazon, or the grocery store. And if I don’t go at all, I won’t be tempted by candles, $5 t-shirts and cute fall decor. The point of “no spend September” was not to not spend money but to not spend money on crap we didn’t need.

And you know what, I actually don’t miss it. I thought I would! I thought I wouldn’t be able to stay away, but I’m doing just fine.

I’ll go back at some point I’m sure, but for now it feels good to have the extra money in the bank, and less crap to deal with in my house!

Talk to me about your Target habits! I know I’m not the only one who struggles with this store!! 🙂

Weekend Favorites

Fall weekends are my absolute favorite. I love the warm sun, crisp air, blue skies. Blanket scarves, boots, pumpkin-everything and apple pies. But most of all, I love fall activities.

Here’s a peek into our weekend!

Saturday:

Gracie and I went to a local farm for their fall festival. We picked apples, checked out the pumpkins, stopped by the petting zoo, and went on a hayride!

Boston Hill Farm is just a few miles from us, and this was only the second time we stopped in – we will definitely be back!

Finally a photo of her without her binky!! Love her cheesy little grin 🙂

Other favorites from the weekend:

I announced the launch of my new Facebook page “Adventures in Pink”! I would love for you to check it and follow me there! I’ll be sharing blog posts, recipes, fashion and health and wellness! Link can be found here.

I’m not a huge sweets person, but something about fall makes me want to bake things! I’ve been using the same apple pie recipe for ten years and I promise you that it is the best and easiest apple pie you will ever make!

And because I love pumpkin everything, we also made pumpkin bread!! (I did cheat though and used a mix from Trader Joe’s).

In three weeks we are doing our holiday photos – kind of crazy to be planning holiday stuff before Halloween, but we have an insanely busy November and I want to have it done ahead of time! This photo is my inspiration for both mine and Gracie’s outfits – seriously how cute is this??

Also, when you wake up on Sunday morning at its 47 degrees outside – you know it’s time for cozy sweatshirts and Uggs. Now if only I could find my fall clothes…..

I hope y’all had an amazing weekend!
