Life Lately

Yesterday started my new schedule of working reduced hours at work. After going non-stop, and working sometimes 6 days a week, anywhere from 45-50 hours…this career girl needed to slow down. Last year before I got pregnant, I felt like I lived at the office. And truthfully, I loved it. I had the unique opportunity to build this position, and make it what it is now. I’m proud of it, and how hard I worked, and how much I grew professionally in the two years that I’ve been here.

I always said that I would always, always have a career and be a mom. Women today are taught that we can (and should!) have it all! But having/doing it all is tiring. Emotionally, physically and mentally. It requires sacrifices, compromises, being really organized and lots of coffee! Or so I’m told :)

In just a few short weeks, life as we know it will be completely turned upside down. Yes, while I will be returning to work after baby M is born, so I know I have a lot of learning to do. A lot of juggling to figure out.

So, in the meantime, I’m really relishing this new schedule. Leaving at 2, gives me time to run those couple of errands I need to do (post office, dry cleaning, ect) and still be home by 3. Where I plan to nap/rest for a couple of hours. Getting up around 5 means I can still do laundry, clean and get dinner ready before Keith gets home from work. And those two hours of rest are really what my body needs right now. I’m not handling pregnancy so well, and I need the time off my feet, just letting my body rest.

And of course, I’m cherishing moments like these:

“mama there isn’t much room for me on your lap anymore!”
my favorite moments — afternoon naps and snuggles with this little guy

Over the past week, Gunner has become more attentive of me. Wants to cuddle more, sit on my lap, and just be next to me. I think he senses that change is imminent!

33 Weeks!

blogger-image-1147470420
Tank: Old Navy Maternity // Cardigan, Express, old // Belt, Kohl’s // Maxi Skirt, Motherhood Maternity

How far along:  33 weeks
Gender: Girl!
Weight gain: at my appointment this week I found out I had only gained 2 pounds in the last 2 1/2 weeks, putting me at a total of 28lbs gained.
Maternity clothes:  I’m starting to find some non-maternity things I can wear again, even just my maxi dresses from last summer have a lot of give and stretch. On the weekends I stay in my pjs as much as possible, and during the week when I’m at work it’s all about comfort.
Stretch marks: Still none …
Belly button in or out: Out
Sleep: is pretty bad at this point. I can’t breathe half the time, and I can’t get comfortable, so it takes me hours of tossing and turning before I can finally fall asleep!
Best moment this week: finally finished the “thank-you” cards from our shower, and started working on the playroom!
Miss anything: breathing normally and walking without waddling :)
Movement:  still pretty active, her movements are more like jabs and punches, than soft little kicks haha
Cravings: Not really craving much of anything these days since my stomach is now the size of a walnut :)
Queasy or sick: I feel like I might be battling a cold, Keith has had one the past 3 or 4 days, and I’m hoping not to catch it, but I’ve been a little congested and had a sore throat so who knows?
Looking forward to: Keith’s birthday is coming up in a couple weeks, and I’m excited to decorate for spring/Easter. Starting to wonder if Easter might be her first holiday???

I had my bi-weekly check in on Thursday with my midwife. I had been having lots of pain, lots of pressure and cramping and my BH contractions had definitely kicked up a notch. We wanted to make sure that I wasn’t dilating or in pre-term labor, thankfully I am neither! She did say that baby girl is completely out of room. Her head is very, very low and her little feet are indeed up under my rib cage. It doesn’t seem likely that I’ll make it to 40 weeks since she really has no more room to grow! My midwife also put me on reduced hours at work, so I am now working 8am-2pm, M-F. Truthfully, even though losing out on the money is tough, I am grateful. I need those extra couple of hours to rest and take care of myself and baby girl, so that she can keep cooking for a few more weeks.

the most ridiculous maternity item

The market on maternity gear is a real interesting one, let me tell you. There are things you need, things that you think you need, things that make your life easier, and things that just make you scratch your head and wonder who the heck came up with that idea!

Yesterday, while browsing Target’s website looking for nursing tanks and bras (very exciting, I know!) I came across this gem:

Miss Oops “Popper Stopper” via Target

As someone’s who’s had an “outie” since about 20 weeks, I found this little “popper stopper” to be incredibly comical. I think it’s kind of cute that my belly button sticks out through all my tops. And yeah, sure it’s a little bit uncomfortable if I brush up against a sink, or my desk at work, but I would never buy what is essentially a Band-Aid, to stick it back in! It’s one of those weird pregnancy things that you just embrace and learn to live with, amiright?

In a pinch, I have a seamless maternity tank (also from Target) that works perfectly to conceal my little “outie”, if I need to!

So tell me …. what ridiculous maternity/pregnancy products have you seen?
