It’s been a little bit since I posted about our house situation, and truthfully the last two weeks were chaotic and stressful, and there were several moments when we almost walked away. In the end, we stuck it out, and things have finally fallen into place.
Week 1: We found out the septic system at the new house would most likely fail in the next 1-2 years. A septic of that size was roughly a $30,000 job, which to a new young couple hoping to start a family, is a very daunting number. Hell, it’s a daunting number to pretty much anyone! After a week of back-and-forth, the sellers took money off the price of the house and we agreed to move forward.
Week 2: Then. The septic ACTUALLY failed inspection. What a nightmare. The sellers had no choice but to replace the system (to the tune of $35,000 because it was not done to code) before we could purchase the property. MA is very strict about this, and we were very fortunate it was caught before we closed. Then, we disagreed on the type of system, the placement, ect. It was ALOT of back-and-forth between us, our agents and the lawyers. The day before Easter we had everyone out to the house, the contractor, seller, agents and our engineer. We got everyone on the same page, shook hands on the deal and pushed forward.
Two days later we finally signed the Purchase and Sale, leaving us with just about two and a half weeks til closing.
Fastforward to two days ago, and we learn the installation of the new septic is five days behind schedule. Now we’re forced to push out our closing date, and we’re hoping to have a new one later today!

Heading into Week 3: We still have an insane amount of things to do over the next couple weeks; packing, transferring utilities, setting up new services, hiring movers … the list feels endless, but we’re almost there! The light at the end of the tunnel is slowly getting closer:)
This post is obviously kind of boring without alot of photos, so here’s a random family photo from last night:

And one of Gunner enjoying the sunshine today:
Don’t judge. He likes to lay in the dirt! |
Enjoy your day!
