Weekending

***I have to start by first saying that my thoughts and prayers are with the Baton Rouge Police Dept, and all the family affected by yesterday’s tragedy. A huge part of my Plexus family lives in Louisiana, specifically in Baton Rouge, and my heart truly breaks for what they are going through. One of the officers critically injured was a family member of a teammate. This tragedy was senseless and cowardly. I am praying for peace amidst tragedy. #AllLivesMatter

This weekend revolved around potty training! Oh the joys! Gracie has been very interested in the potty for the past several months, but we never pushed the issue. We let her sit on it whenever she wanted, and she talked about it a lot. She especially loved to keep us company while we were in the bathroom LOL. We had a lot of traveling going on in May/June and I didn’t want to attempt to potty train her until I knew I had the time to devote to it.

I did a good amount of “research” – you know, I asked my mom-friends, I scoured Pinterest – the usual. I thought we had a good game plan ready to go!

Friday was day one – we got up, I showed her the “potty chart” I made for her, and took off her diaper and put her in her new Minnie undies. We waited. And waited. She drank, she ate. We played play-doh, we did flash cards, we drew, we watched Mickey Mouse. We waited and waited some more. We went to the bathroom every 20-30 min. She was a good sport about it, but by almost lunchtime we had more accidents than successes. We were both tired and frustrated.

I put her down for her nap, and decided it was time to throw the plan out. Because in some things parenting-related, you just have to let go, stop trying to control everything and follow their lead.

She woke up dry and immediately had a successful potty trip! The rest of the afternoon was followed by one success after the other – yay! She loved getting her treat and putting a sticker on the chart.

Saturday was even better – a total of 2 accidents all day, we made a trip out to lunch and Babies’r’Us where we bought her a little potty seat – something I said I wouldn’t do. But she took it like nothing I’ve ever seen. At that point, we had really turned a corner.

It’s the end of day three, and I would say at this point she is 75% potty trained! I plan on keeping her out of a diaper when we are home, using them only for naps and bedtime. If we go out, I’ll put her in a Pull-Up, and we’ll just keep trudging along!

Supplies we kept on hand were puppy-training-pee-pads (for her to sit on the couch or floor on; Clorox wipes; and M&M’s. We didn’t really need much else!!

I also went back to Nordstrom this weekend (I swear for the last time!) and thanks to a defective pair of boots and a generous return policy, I was able to get the riding boots that have been on my dream wish list for years. And they were practically free 😉

We also went to Berry Pond, our favorite place to spend a few hours. By Sunday morning, we were all going a little stir crazy. It’s a great little beach, quiet and peaceful and it’s never busy. We love it!

We ended the weekend watching the new HBO series “The Night Of” – y’all it is soooo good! It’s only the second episode, and we are hooked. I’m glad we found this to fill the GoT void on Sunday nights 😉
