What to Wear Wednesday: Black Tie Wedding

Welcome to “What to Wear Wednesday”!

Brittany and I are so excited to be sharing this series with y’all!

Once a month we will be posting style ideas for a specific event. We plan to do a mix of both special events and every day occasions, from how to mix prints to what to wear to a wedding.

Is there a particular look you want ideas styling? Leave us a comment or shoot us an email and we’d be happy to incorporate it!

This month we are talking about Black Tie weddings, because I am attending one in just a couple of weeks!

Keith and I received an invitation to a “black-tie optional” wedding in Boston at the end of February. This immediately presents a couple of challenges. First, Boston & February = COLD. Second, I don’t own anything black tie. See my conundrum?

My requirements are something affordable, but not boring. And it’s got to be warm!

I have this thing about wearing the same formal dress to multiple events. As in, I don’t like to do it. Is that something just I do??

I decided the best way around this issue, and since I will probably not need a black tie dress again, is to rent one. Have you heard of Rent the Runway?

You essentially rent a designer gown from them for either 4 or 8 days. They will also send you a second size for free, in case one size doesn’t fit. And, for an additional $25, you can choose a second style!

Here are my top three favorite dresses from Rent the Runway.

And because it’s freezing here, I will top my gown with this:

Which look do you prefer? Have you ever rented a gown? Do you re-wear dresses? What do you think about “What to Wear Wednesday?” SO many questions!! :)

*Note: this is not a sponsored post – but if RTR wants to send me one of these dresses, I will happily accept! :)*

All about this new space

I honestly never dreamed that this new site would come together as fast at it did.

I knew around November time-frame that I wanted to change my blog name. “Anchored to Love” just didn’t really flow, or seem to fit anymore. Truthfully, when I chose it I think I was trying to make it work because I wanted to include the word “anchor”. As time went on, and I started putting more thought and time into this blog, I knew I needed something better.

I’m currently taking a course on Blogging Essentials, and it has been incredibly helpful in guiding me with the decision. I left Blogger completely, and made the scary jump to self-hosted WordPress. I’m LOVING WordPress. I knew there would be a learning curve, but I read many (MANY) Pinterest articles on tips and tricks. So far, I’m doing ok :) I chose WP because I want to have more control and I like the options of their plugins. And I wanted my own domain name. So I figured that if I was going to change my blog name and start fresh, I may as well go all in. Go big or go home right?

So my new name. Well, the Grace part is easy to figure out right? Half of what I post about revolves around my life as a mama and wife and our family. That part was easy! And then I chose Leopard because, well, I’m kind of obsessed with Leopard. I think of leopard as a style neutral, and I wear ALOT of it. So does Gracie. I liked it because it represents the creative and fashionable (ha!) side of me. And that’s what I want this blog to be about. A little bit of life + style and a little bit of Grace.

So what can you expect here? I plan to have a regular blogging schedule with more specific content. I want to be a relatable and authentic blogger. I want to be YOUR friend!  I have met some amazing women in my short time blogging, and am on my way to forging real friendships. That’s what I love most about blogging.

Starting tomorrow, I will have a new monthly series that I’m excited to share, so please be sure to come back and check it out!

Our Weekend: A Big Win

Happy Monday lovelies! Are you snowed in today too? I can’t believe that just two weeks ago, we had NO snow – and within one week, we have over 3’!

Not that I mind being snowed in with my little :) I’m doing a little bit of work from home today, but mostly I just plan on snuggling with her :)

The biggest part of our weekend was the Patriots SuperBowl win! Holy moly I still can’t believe they won!

Growing up, I didn’t know anything about sports, and I didn’t even care about football until I met Keith. Football is a huge deal in the McKenney household, and I very quickly fell in love with the game, and with the team. (I’m not sure they would have kept me around if I hadn’t gotten on board!) It’s been almost six years since I became a true Patriots fan – and seeing this SuperBowl win, was pretty special.

When I worked at TrashLand, I had the privilege of attending games with our company. My old boss owned the suite right next to Tom Brady’s – so seeing Gisele and the kids was very common! And let me tell you, however gorgeous you think Gisele is – is nothing in comparison to her in real life.

Back to the game – which was a nail biter, for sure, but after all the stupid controversy over deflategate – I knew in my gut they had to pull out a win to silence all the critics and haters. Those last few seconds of the game, a teeny bit of doubt started to creep into my mind, but timing and luck and positioning and just SMART football, were on our side.

It was pretty awesome stuff.

Watching the awards ceremony after, and listening to the players speeches – just warmed my heart. There really isn’t any other way to describe it! I love this team, for everything they are and what they stand for. “Tonight, we are all Patriots”. Gotta love Robert Kraft. I know Myra was smiling down on them!

Now – time to cue the Duck Boats and welcome our boys home!
